Release Train Engineer (RTE)
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) role involves enabling reliable execution of Program Increment objectives by fostering transparency, managing risks and dependencies, optimizing value flow through continuous improvement, and leading with a servant-leadership mindset to empower teams and ensure effective Agile Release Train (ART) practices. The RTE aligns with other ARTs and organizational initiatives, drives impediment removal, ensures transparency of feature implementation, supports data-driven decision-making, and tracks program execution for stakeholders.
In this position, you will be the Release Train Engineer for a global Agile Release Train with 5-6 teams distributed across Europe and India. Qualifications include a BTech/MS/MTech in Engineering, 12-15 years in software development projects across distributed teams, and 3-5 years as an RTE or in project/program management with certifications. Key skills include excellent English communication, negotiation, facilitation, project management, data-driven decision-making, coaching, and stakeholder alignment in a global Agile environment.
As an RTE, you
- Enable reliable execution of PI objectives by fostering transparency, early risk identification, and collaborative problem-solving, facilitates all the ART events (Program Increment Planning, Roadmap, I&A, System Demo)
- Manage risks and dependencies: Help the ART identify, assess, and mitigate risks, while also enabling teams to manage dependencies.
- Optimize flow of value at the ART level through continuous improvement practices, using flow metrics (predictability, WIP, cycle time) to improve delivery outcomes and overall effectiveness
- Lead with a servant‑leadership mindset, providing strong community facilitation and coaching for Scrum Masters to empower teams, strengthen ownership, and ensure consistent, effective practices across the ART
- Align with other ARTs within the Solution, Project Management and drive relevant organizational initiativesDrive removal of impediments and risks on ART level (brought up by ART & Solution events)
- Ensure overall transparency regarding feature implementation and impact on projects (e.g. proactive communication, milestone status, progress, impediments and risks)
- Help the team to derive objective measures from existing data to enable data driven decision making.
- Be well informed about ART activities, plans and risks and be transparent with the stakeholders. Help track program execution and feature completion, and report status to stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
- BTech/MS/MTech Engineering preferably Computer Science or equivalent
- Overall 12 – 15 years of experience in SW development projects for large systems, preferably in projects distributed across multiple geographical locations.
- 3 – 5 years of experience as Release Train Engineer or Project/Program Management preferably with certifications
- Exposure of working in projects/teams across geographical locations
- Conversant with Agile Visual Management
