External Job Description 

The IP Counsel focuses on counseling and implementing the Intellectual Property (IP) strategy for Siemens Healthineers legal entities in India. As a business partner, the candidate is expected to contribute to the success of the business by providing practical IP legal advice to meet the objectives of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Counsel R&D, engineering and business teams to identify inventions, and ensure quality IP is generated and harvested aligned with business objectives
  • Conduct comprehensive patent searches and technical research to assess patentability, competitive landscapes in support of IP strategy
  • Manage the preparation, filing and prosecuting of patent applications and software copyright registrations
  • Communicate and coordinate with the internal stakeholders and outside counsels
  • Work closely with the businesses in India to provide IP counseling (including due diligence, drafting, and negotiating) on transactions such as collaboration agreements, licenses, research agreements, etc.
  • Training and providing IP awareness to employees
  • Compliance to the local laws and regulations; monitors and evaluate impact of IP legislations in India
  • Support innovation management in the organization and contribute to key initiatives

Qualification, Relevant Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelors/Masters (Science/Technology/Engineering) and preferably a Law Degree with IP specialization
  • 3-6 years of experience as a practicing attorney in the IP field of law
  • Good understanding of the appropriate IP laws, particularly patent laws and procedures
  • Registered patent agent in India
  • At least 2 years’ experience providing IP counselling to business teams
  • Experience working on patent application drafting and prosecution for multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience in product IP clearances, patent investigations, and IP-related agreements
  • Experience working in large, complex organizations and interacting with key stakeholders across geographies is preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to engage with technical, business and legal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
