Operations Training Manager
Location: Oxford / Bicester

Working closely with Manufacturing Leadership, Engineering, Quality, HR, EH&S and operational teams, you'll have the platform to make a lasting impact on both people and business performance. 

About the role

As Operations Training Manager, you'll lead the overall Operations Training function across Manufacturing Operations, ensuring our teams have the skills, knowledge, competence and support required to safely and efficiently deliver production, quality, compliance and operational performance objectives.

Leading a team of Training Facilitators and a wider network of subject matter experts and trainers, you'll be responsible for developing and delivering a forward-looking training strategy that supports workforce capability, operational readiness, onboarding, apprenticeships, leadership development, digital transformation, automation initiatives and New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes.

This is a key leadership role where you'll combine operational knowledge and people leadership to build a skilled, high-performing workforce that supports manufacturing excellence.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and implement the Operations Training initiative, aligned to the organisations strategic goals and business priorities.
  • Leading workforce capability planning to support business growth, operational resilience, succession planning and organisational transformation.
  • Managing and developing a team of Training Facilitators while fostering a collaborative and engaging learning culture. 
  • Driving excellence in onboarding, technical training, compliance training and critical skills development across manufacturing operations. 
  • Enhancing existing training programmes through continuous improvement, ensuring learning remains relevant, effective and aligned to future industry standards. 
  • Ensuring training programmes support NPI activities, process changes, automation, digitalisation and future manufacturing technologies.
  • Overseeing apprenticeship programmes, capability frameworks and leadership development initiatives.
  • Implementing innovative learning approaches including blended learning, digital learning, on-the-job training, simulation and competency assessments.
  • Monitoring training effectiveness, competency metrics and workforce capability trends to drive measurable improvements in performance.
  • Building strong partnerships with leaders, engineers, quality teams, HR, external providers and operational stakeholders to ensure training priorities align with business needs.
  • Maintaining robust governance, audit readiness, compliance and EH&S standards across all training activities.

What skills and experience you'll bring

We're looking for an experienced training, learning or operational leader who understands the challenges and opportunities of developing capability within a manufacturing environment.

You'll ideally bring:
  • Significant experience within a manufacturing, engineering or operational environment. 
  • Proven experience leading training functions, workforce development programmes or technical learning teams.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations and the ability to translate business requirements into practical capability solutions. 
  • Experience developing technical training programmes, competency frameworks and workforce capability strategies.
  • A track record of leading and developing high-performing teams and influencing stakeholders across multiple functions.
  • Excellent coaching, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement and using data to make informed decisions.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, problem-solving methodologies and operational excellence principles.
  • Experience supporting large-scale change, transformation, NPI or workforce readiness initiatives.
  • Confidence working in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve and collaboration is essential.
  • Experience leading manufacturing training operations, technical workforce capability programmes or apprenticeship schemes would be particularly valuable.
