Join us in pioneering breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. Sustainably.

Our inspiring and caring environment forms a global community that celebrates diversity and individuality. We encourage you to step beyond your comfort zone, offering resources and flexibility to foster your professional and personal growth, all while valuing your unique contributions.

Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Apprentice – Point of Care

Start your career with us as an EHS Apprentice, completing a Level 4 Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Technician Apprenticeship while gaining hands-on experience across our Sudbury site.

At Siemens Healthineers Diagnostics in Sudbury, Suffolk, we are a global leading manufacturer in the assembly of specialist instrumentation for laboratories and hospitals across the world for Urinalysis, Diabetes, and Blood Gas analytics, and are the only facility in the network to make and ship these products globally.

This is a learning-focused role, where you’ll work alongside our EHS team, supporting the team that helps keep our workplace safe, healthy, running correctly and compliant.

As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll begin developing the knowledge and skills needed for a career in health & safety — learning how businesses manage risk, protect people, and meet legal requirements.

What you’ll gain from the apprenticeship

From day one, you’ll be building real-world experience while working towards your qualification. You’ll benefit from:

  • Hands-on experience supporting day-to-day Environment, Health & Safety activities across site
  • Exposure to a variety of environments including manufacturing, labs, warehouse and offices
  • Development of key skills such as communication, organisation and working with data
  • Experience supporting inspections, investigations and ways we improve how things are done
  • A recognised Level 4 Safety, Health & Environment qualification
  • The opportunity to work with different teams across the site
  • A pathway into a recognised health & safety career, including eligibility for professional memberships (such as IOSH and IEMA)

What you’ll be doing

This is a learning role, so you’ll spend your time:

  • Supporting day-to-day EHS activities, learning how we keep our workplace safe and compliant
  • Helping to keep systems and records up to date, including incident reporting and documentation
  • Assisting with data analysis relating to incidents, near misses and safety observations
  • Supporting audits, inspections and compliance checks
  • Getting involved in investigations and learning how we identify and reduce risk
  • Assisting with training activities (such as inductions or brief safety updates)
  • Working with colleagues across the site and building confidence communicating with different teams
  • Getting involved in improvement activities, looking at how things can be done more effectively
  • Supporting wellbeing initiatives and events across the site
  • Building your skills using digital tools, systems and Microsoft Office

Over time, you’ll gain confidence taking ownership of tasks and contributing more independently to team activities.

What we’re looking for

You don’t need previous experience — we’re looking for someone who is keen to learn and build their skills.

You might be:

  • Organised and able to manage your time across different tasks
  • Comfortable communicating with others and working as part of a team
  • Curious and interested in how health & safety supports a business
  • Someone who takes pride in getting things right and paying attention to detail
  • Willing to learn and develop your skills using IT systems and data
  • Positive and proactive, with a can-do attitude

An interest in areas such as health & safety, compliance or wellbeing would be helpful, but isn’t essential.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and will happily discuss any adjustments to support you through the recruitment process.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you’ll need to:

  • Not hold an existing qualification in a similar or a closely related subject at the same or higher level already,
  • You must also have eligibility to work in the UK for the duration of the Apprenticeship and meet the Department for Education and Skills funding rules, including residency criteria.

Early Careers recruitment process:

  • During our Selection and Assessment process for Early Careers, we like to give our candidates the best chance to showcase their potential by using a variety of assessment types.
  • To support the shortlisting process for our Early Careers roles, and to enable candidates to showcase their potential beyond what is on their CV, we will often make use of online assessments or/and on-demand video assessments.
  • Further assessment will take the form of an interview or assessment centre. Assessment centres typically include some combination of activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, presentations and in-tray exercises. Interviews are typically competency based.
  • In most cases we try to hold these final stage interviews or assessments in person where possible, to enable candidates to meet our team and get to understand a little bit more about what we do and what it might be like to work for us.
